The Black living donor choir is an awareness initiative started by Gift of Living Donation to raise awareness of living donation in the Black African Caribbean community.
It’s a community choir made up of people who are Black living kidney donors. The choir was formed in 2022 as a creative platform to inspire and encourage more people from the black community to come forward as living kidney donors for loved ones and friends who have kidney failure and need a kidney transplant.
They hope to inspire family and friends to donate through their personal stories and experiences of living donation. Information is power and the choir hope to educate and empower Black people to donate.
The Choir’s director is Colin Vassell, a leading international vocal coach, choir director and singer of inspirational and gospel music. Find out more about the choir.
The choir is pleased to have Kidney Care UK as one of their sponsors, they are the UK’s leading kidney patient support charity, providing practical, financial and emotional support for kidney patients and their families and campaigning to improve care services across the UK.
The choir is a vibrant and visible platform to raise awareness of a very important topic that people in the black community are reluctant to talk about. Music is such a powerful medium that crosses all generations , it is a great initiative.
